Welcome to the Baby Bunny Site

Texas Cottontail
He's about 2 years old here.
He felt safe around my truck

We bought our house at Lake Corpus Christi, TX in '96.
The grass was really high & we hired someone to cut it.
He accidentally ran over a Rabbits den. :(

Momma took off with one. Another died a few hours later, which
left this little guy, unprotected & untouched. He was the size of a hamster when he was found.

I immediately called Dr. Greenwood in Mathis, TX & he told me to feed him an equal mixture of canned goats milk, & water. I then would warm it up in the microwave taking a small syringe & fed him with that.

I held him in a towel so that he would'nt have human scent on him, or get too familiar with it.

I woke up every 2 hours around the clock for the next 3 weeks, setting the alarm to go off at those entervals.
My husband was really patient with me during this process.
It was exhausting, but I believe I was doing the right thing. I tried to find an organization to take him, but since he was a typical cottontail, no one would help. And they are *hard* to impossible to keep alive. But I did it.

He's about 1 month old

As he grew, he weighed less than he should. To this day he remains on the small side. That's to be expected since I didn't have rabbits milk. But he was spoiled & healthy.

I gave him fresh fruit & vegetables daily. His favorites are apples & broccoli. :) He also ate some hay. I would call him from the deck of our house and say, "Here Baby Bunnyyyy, want some apple?" He would come, just like a dog for his treat. ;)

The pictures above were of the *release* date, approximately 2 months later, so we guessed that he was 3 months old. I was concerned with letting him loose...a worrisome Mommy if you will. ;) But on the other hand, I had tried to keep my distance from him. I didn't want him to be
*Human friendly*

He had to be able to live in the wild. And I had not seen his mother
or the 3rd baby in the area at all.
(I don't blame them, I wouldn't want to stick around either)
